how to master cooking

I started cooking ever since I was seven, and it grew on me. Year by year I learned more and eventually that’s all what I wanted to. By the time I was in high school my cooking skills were more than decent and I was helping mom out in the kitchen, correction, she was helping me cook. I did pretty much all the cooking and I enjoyed every second of it. I also took some classes but they are worthless if you don’t like what you do. That’s why I’m here, I want to give you a few tips to get you started with cooking.

Please keep in mind I’m not a master chef or anything close to that, it’s all trial and error. I don’t know everything but I keep learning and I listen when I’m spoken to, you should do the same if you want to follow this as a career.

You know who Gordon Ramsay is, one of the world’s lead chefs. He started from the bottom like me and you! He wasn’t born a professional cook and he didn’t get where he is now by feeling sorry for himself. A while ago he shared a YouTube video explaining how you can master cooking with 5 basic skills!

The video above covers the top five basics aptitudes you need to master before you even enter the kitchen. I’d like to give my perspective on things and with a little help, we will both learn something new today. One more thing that is worth mentioning is that you might want to take things easy, find something easy and fast you would like to eat and cook that first. First thing is first and it’s coming from me, always wash your hands before you start cooking anything. Use soap, and clean them really well, you wouldn’t want tainted food in your home. Ask any person in a restaurant and they will say that washing your hands after touching meat is not something you should concern with while cooking, quite the contrary. Meat has a scent, if you’re pancakes end up tasting and smelling like fish then you took a wrong turn somewhere. Don’t forget, you can only master cooking by practicing.

Sharpen Your Knife

Always have a sharpened knife in the kitchen. Blunt ones are not gonna cut it, pun intended. If you are like me then you have about four blunt knife lying around in your kitchen drawers. They’re useless as your favorite knife can already do what they can’t. Wrong. Each type of knife has a use and I doubt you use that butter knife to cut meat, so get sharpening. Be careful not to cut your fingers.

Learn To Skin Fish

You may not have cooked fish yet, but being able to skin them is a great advantage and a skill you should not take for granted. The whole prelude of skinning is having a sharp knife to do the job for you, pull the meat and cut the skin. Also removing the bones from the meat makes the meal two times tastier … and easier to digest.

Cutting an Onion Without Crying

Lots of tears spilled and one too many onions cut before realizing that what made us cry was the root of the onion. Do not cut the root and tears will be gone in no time. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that one out, I’m glad we finally have a solution for this!
